Observations
| Observations: | S. Spaulding & R. Esposito |
|---|---|
| Length: | 5.5-16 µm |
| Width: | 2-3 µm |
| Striae: | 30-36 in 10 µm |
Description:
Valve margin linear with broad, rounded ends. Axial area narrow or indistinct. Central area wide, generally rounded, and often with a thickening of the valve beneath the central area (see Round et al., 1990 for SEM illustrations of this feature). Raphe straight with simple proximal raphe ends. Striae linear and composed of elongate puncta. Striae may difficult to see in the light microscope.
| Morphology: | Naviculoid |

| Distribution: | Widespread |
Notes:
This form differs from the nominate variety by its smaller size and parallel valve margins. Similar to the findings of Kellogg et al. (1980), our specimens were typically smaller than the nominate form.
