Observations

Observations: Bart Van de Vijver
Length: 30-40µm
Width: 10µm
Striae: 11-12 striae in 10µm on the ARV; 13-15 striae in 10µm on the RV

Description:

Valves linear with parallel, undulating margins and broadly rounded ends (L 30-40µm, W 10µm, 11-12 striae in 10µm on the ARV, 13-15 striae in 10µm on the RV). Axial area linear, quite distinct. Striae parallel in the middle, slightly radiate towards the ends, consisting of one row of rounded areolae. RV: axial area linear, central area broad, stauroform. Transapical striae radiate, convergent near the poles. Raphe filiform with expanded central endings and curved terminal fissures.

Morphology: Monoraphid
Distribution: Antarctic endemic

Autecology:

Notes:

Pointe Basse, Ile de la Possession, Crozet Archipelago, Sample BA061 (coll. date 21/11/1999).Only found on one location, in the bare soil of a small shallow cave, located on the river edge, about 3 meter above water level. The diatom composition of the sample points to a more brackish environment.Described from Ile de la Possession and recently observed in some moss samples from Ile Heard (pers. observation).
