ABSTRACT:

RESEARCH LOCATION: Samples were collected from the deepest site of each lake.

METHODS: A 10-cm-diameter sampling hole was drilled through the ice by auger at the deepest site of each lake and was then melted out to a diameter of 30 cm. The hole was protected with an opaque cover until the time of sampling. Water samples from beneath the ice were obtained with Van Dorn or Niskin sampling bottles.
