Greetings from Antarctica!!

In addition to meeting Anne, the other high point of my time on the ice thus far has been a trip to Cape Evans. Like McMurdo Station, Cape Evans is located on Ross Island. The cape is most famous as the locale of Robert
Scott's hut from the Terra Nova expedition. Built in 1911, the hut and most of its contents are still incredibly intact. After the visiting the hut, we had some time to hike around a bit and off in the distance we saw what looked like some giant slugs on the ice. (We're talking 9-10 feet.) In Antarctica, that generally means one thing - seals!

some contents!

As we approached, we saw that it was a mother Weddell seal and her baby. Weddell seals are awesome divers. They can dive to almost 1000 feet and stay underwater for one hour. The seals give birth in September and October. Not to get all mushy but this seal and her pup were soooooo cute!!! The photos don't do them justice.

Well, that's it for now. Hope all is well up north!
